A rash of flash

small_book_open1I’ve had good luck finding buyers for flash fiction over the past few weeks.

“For Want of a Blade,” a tale of work and cruel irony is now up at Flash Fire 500, and it looks like the tiny horror stories “Alone” and “Loves Me, Loves Me Not” will be appearing in Poe Little Thing and Sonar 4 respectively.

Also, a dark fantasy piece called “The Boy on the Bike” will run in the fledgling British publication Ruthless Peoples. And a 100-word slice-of-life tale, “Laundromat,” is slated for Burst Literary E-Zine, which transmits microfiction via cell phone.

Looks like short is sweet this spring.

Microhorror.com picks a winner

nightfalls1My story “On This Night” has won Microhorror.com’s Night Falls on Everyone contest. The challenge was to write a 110-word story describing what happens when night falls.

The win doesn’t come with a massive cash prize that will allow me to quit my day job. Damn.

But the prize is nothing to sneeze at. It’s a copy of Casey Quinn’s new short-story collection “Night Falls on Everyone.” Looks like an enjoyable read. Casey’s the editor of the e-zine Short Story Library, and I’ve enjoyed reading his clever and creepy contributions to Microhorror.com.

Coming to Chimaeracon 2009

d20Just got word I’ll be the author guest at Chimaeracon 2009, the San Antonio gaming and S.F. convention. The con will take place March 6-8 at the Crossroads Mall’s Convention Center. I’ll be there autographing books, including a new handmade chapbook of my prose poems and microfiction pieces. I’ll also be doing a reading and participating in panels. More time details to come.

Also appearing will be my old buddy Mike Fisher, an award-winning San Antonio cartoonist and animator whose work has appeared in Animation Magazine and Starlog, and Austin’s The Defuser, season-two winner of “Stan Lee’s Who Wants to Be a a Superhero?”

Visit Chimaeracon’s website for ticket prices and other details. I look forward to seeing some of you there.
